Over Population Solution PDF Print E-mail

It seems like I may have found a solution to my over populating guppies; a big Koi Angelfish. I got home from work yesterday and I noticed that the Angelfish was moving around quite a bit more than it was the first day. It seems to be getting used to its new tank. I watched him for a few minutes and realized that he was chasing all the small guppy fry around. The fry move kind of quick so the Angelfish had its work cut out for him. It didn't take long for him to realize what he had to do, be patient. Every time a fry would swim in front of him he would simply swim forward a little and suck the fry into his mouth. I'd say he probably ate a good dozen or more in the course of 30 minutes.

I think I will leave them in there for the rest of the day and remove tonight when the lights go off. I'll see how the guppy population responds to the thinning of the 'herd'. I know for certain that all the larger guppies are females, there are still some fry that I cannot sex yet. I'll have to wait and see what they are, who knows, they might be eaten already!

I'll post some better pictures sometime later this week. I got a busy weekend a head of me so it will have to wait till next week.
